Transportation

Hi Shannon!! hope things are well with you!! our buses no longer deliver to individual homes...we have drop off points near the greatest concentration of kids. there have been a few times  when this has caused some difficulty but very few. most parents don't mind because their kids get home earlier as a rule since we are so rural. take care, Tracy

Staffing

Wow! I'm sure most of us can relate.
A few things I have done...
Make sure your pay scale looks better than Conoco's (just kidding, but true)
If you have colleges in area try to post you're openings there. Even better - try to have your program the practicum sight for their Early child/Education dept.
Work with the local high school (you'll be surprised on how many 18 year olds there are) and develop...

That is a very common problem.  I can definitely relate!  Look for college students interested in elementary education.  Call an advisor at a local college and they can help point you in the right direction.

Grow your own, we have had the most luck hiring quality people after we became affiliated with a junior college that used our facility in the evenings to teach courses towards an AA degree.  As soon as this started we were able to find motivated and willing new employees that eventually had 60 hours or more of college credit.

Kids Care Center Training

Does anyone know for sure what the number of trainings required for KCC is?  I was told by a person we only had to do one training.  The portal says 2--one in the Fall and one in the Spring.  Please help.  I want to meet the requirements.

Career Ladder hours

Does anyone  use career ladder hours instead of a salary to run their program?  How do the teachers respond to not getting paid?  Do you have trouble keeping staff, since they are not getting paid?

Career Ladder hours

We use both career ladder and pay. It works really well, but we have an option, so there are no complaints.  I do , however, have trouble getting people to work even for pay.

Career Ladder hours

I have a few teachers that split their time between getting paid and career ladder hours.  I also have teachers who take their own students out after school to give them one on one tutoring.  They seem to like it.

Career Ladder hours

We have found Career Ladder to be the most helpful in "special" interest areas like, Music & Art to name a few.  What happens is the teacher get paid through Career Ladder and we get regular (weekly, bi-weekly or monthly) program options that break up the regular curriculum.

Imputing Information

What kind of problems are you having inputting information -- what area?  Have you looked under the references tab here in the portal for the KCC instruction sheet that may pertain to the area you are having difficulty with?  Have you contacted John Shively at 816-686-0850?

a really dumb question:)

In Camdenton students and faculty are not allowed to have cell phones during our before/afterschool program.  The policy is in our training manuals and is discussed at our teacher academy and students and parents are given this policy at the parent/student orientation.

a really dumb question:)

No written policy but we have had several "issues" and a couple of write ups due to improper monitoring of students and activities. - S. Wilson @ Republic R-III

We limit the cell phone to a dollar amount and the person who exceeds the amount pays the difference

Where are you located and what type of community resources (if any) are available? Can you create a collaboration with the school district?
Can someone donate or purchase a bus for you? McDonalds may be a resource to look at.
Post your situation and maybe I can offer a few solutions.

transportation

if anyone does please pass it on to our BASE program as well. We are running only two routes right now and it is costing the district $75. per day (approximatley). That does not sound like much but over a period of 100 days it adds up!

How many sites have full-time directors?

I recently hired one full time director to service two sites.  This person will spent 1/2 of the open hours at one sight and 1/2 at the other.  There will still be 2-3 hrs per day for planning, etc..

The actual trainings will not be posted here in the forum - they will appear under the training tab for KCC Regional Trainings. This question was just about looking for a location to hold a potential training at.
