Afterschool Program Stakeholders - Funding Announcement
As you may be aware, the U.S Department of Education has placed a hold on the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) funding. As a result, the new year grant award has not yet been disbursed to DESE.
At present, DESE plans to continue normal operations using existing funding while awaiting additional information about federal allocations. Programs and contractors may continue to provide services under their existing agreements with DESE.
DESE will continue to monitor the proposed budget for Federal Fiscal Year 2026 and will provide guidance regarding services for the next school year as we receive additional information.
We are grateful for your dedication to serving children in Missouri. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions. Your commitment is truly appreciated.

2025-26 Continuation Awards - Update
As you all have heard, there is a review process taking place of the 21st CCLC dollars at the federal U.S. Department of Education and the new year grant award to states is on hold. However, please note that Missouri has enough carry-over funds to continue doing business as usual for the next school year. Therefore, please be watching in the next few days for your award notice to be emailed to you. We apologize for the delay. Please understand this is a temporary band-aid and the hard-fought education you are doing should not stop. This funding is desperately needed for all states for all years going forward, we need 21st CCLC funded!

21st CCLC Funding Issue
We know everyone is very worried and concerned about the potential cut to 21st CCLC in the President's budget. At this time, we honestly do not know any more than any of you. Not that this helps at all, but the program has been fully eliminated from President's budget the past 10 or so years. Educating legislators on the Hill has been very beneficial to saving the program before. And just because it has been saved before, you should not rest this year. You should have received a packet from the Missouri AfterSchool Network (MASN) in the mail about this funding situation and how to help. Additionally, you can visit the Afterschool Alliance webpage at: Afterschool Works for America |.
We will keep you updated as we learn more.
